Good Evening, Friends and Fam!  And Happy Spring!!

I know for some of you it may not feel quite like Spring is here (NY, I heard you guys just got snow – very sorry to hear that!), but trust when I say that it is mos def here and making it’s presence known.  From hay fever to splotches of sunshine, we here at the BCH are getting the full Spring [nose and eye] rub-down.  Sometimes it’s cute.  Sometimes it’s really not.  But one thing is certain, no matter what the weather you will find the sounds that will make it all better!  And for today’s Brick City House show, we’ve brought you something that will do just that …

Miss Kai brings you the Shimmy

Today’s BCH Guest brought us her Southern-Fried Soul all the way from Nashville, Tennessee.  DJ MissKai brings a shimmy unlike any other.  Her sounds are soulful, deep and, yes, even gritty with an ounce of bounce – all at the same time. Her ability to move between genre’s is what captured our attention when we first came across Miss Kai’s sound.  But it was the way she kept us locked in her groove and, most importantly, locked in her vibe that kept us listening.  Miss Kai is on a continuous journey of self-exploration through her Music.  She’s tuned in to the many ways that Music can affect others, and trust when I say that this goes way beyond any dance floor she’s rocking.  When you hear our interview with Miss Kai you will hear where she is coming from and why she has chosen Music as her medium to speak to the masses.  When it comes to her mix, all I can say is this, “trust me“.  No matter whether your in the sun, rain, or snow Miss Kai WILL bring that sunshine-feeling straight to your heart.  So kick off those shoes, relax, and serve yourself a healthy dose of  Miss Kai’s chicken soup for your soul.

WorldTown v3. Featuring DJ Moni

On April 17th the love movement will embrace Chattanooga. Phillip Allen, a.k.a. K7, local DJ and MakeWork grant recipient is hosting the third installment of his WorldTown global music project with Brooklyn based DJ, multimedia artist, and co-creator of Friends We Love web documentary series Moni Pineda.

DJ Moni’s career has led her to countries such as Japan and France.  In addition to her selector duties, she is an accomplished photographer, with photos published in magazines such as The Fader, and Rolling Stone.  Moni is also the co-creator of the Friends We Love (FWL) artist documentary series.  FWL seeks to create cultural exchange through short web documentaries filmed by her and partner Mike Vargas, events, artist installations, and educational initiatives.

So far the project has featured diverse creative’s such as shadow chalk street artist Ellis G, controversial N.Y.C. subway collage artist Poster Boy, and BBC presenter and global DJ, Gilles Peterson.  More information on FWL can be found at friendswelove.com

The event will take place in two segments.  From 3 – 4 pm there will be a screening of 3 FWL shorts followed by a discussion on global underground music and art culture with the creators.  The discussion will be followed by a Q&A session.

From 9 pm – 1 am DJ Moni, MissKai of Nashville and K7 will take the Southside of Chattanooga on a journey through the world via music.

The screening/discussion is free and open to the public.  The party is open to 21 and older, and the cover charge will be $10.  Both segments will be held at the former Decossimo studio turned venue, CampHouse, at 1427 Williams street.

Events We Love :: WorldTown v3 ft Moni & FWL

This Saturday DJ K7 (Phillip Allen) of Chattanooga, Tennessee invited me to be a part of his music series,Et Cetera, WorldTown v3 and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ll be screening a few of our Friends We Love shorts followed by a panel discussion on global culture and music. Later in the evening we’ll have a big party where we’ll play bumping music from around the world. I’ll be DJing along with K7 and Miss Kai from Nashville, a lovely soul sister I can’t wait to share the decks with.

Here’s a bit more information about the event from DJ K7:

Et Cetera (etc) is a music series spearheaded by Chattanooga DJ K7. ETC is about everything else; music that is not traditionally represented though the mainstream music outlet. The goal of ETC is to generate awareness for lesser-known musical styles such as: Afrobeat, Kuduro, Cumbia, Nu-Jazz, Broken Beat, Drum and Bass, and Future Soul. The names may seem unfamiliar but the sound is universal. We will be hosting recurring parties, lectures, and movie screenings to promote these sounds in the Chattanooga area.
